About the Facilitator(s)
Born and raised in Wai'anae, O'ahu, Jonathan was first taught to dance hula at age 5 by his tutu Lucille Kaleikaukeha Kupau. He further studied under the tutelage of John Papa of Nanakuli, Hoku Rasmussen, Lydia Kauakahi, Frank Palani Kahala of the Gentlemen of Maluikeau, Michael Canopin of Halau Kealakapawa, and Ehulani Stephany of Halau Hula Ka Makani Hali'a Ala O Puna.
Kimo has competed in the Merrie Monarch, Kamehameha Hula Competition, and was awarded Mr. Imperial Hula of 2002. Jonathan has toured the US and Japan as an ambassador of this beautiful Hawaiian cultural practice. He has been teaching hula for ten years and continues to do so at the retreat center Kalani Honua of Kalapana where he has been living since 2004.
