Yin/Yang Yoga
Spark your soul’s awakening by igniting your inner spiritual fire during these uplifting Yin/Yang flow classes. Yang Vinyasa is a very active form of movement for the body and the breath, and combined, create balance to the nervous system and bring about mental tranquility. Yin is a very mild, but not easy form of Hatha practice in which the yogi sits in very inactive poses for longer periods of time working especially on fascia, ligaments, and bones. The balance of these two practices coupled with meditation allows the senses to then merge inward focusing on the opening or shift of energetic direction. This is called pratyahara. The mind follows the senses inward and withdraws from objects of desire outside the body, which can cause suffering if we are too attached. These unbelievably beautiful days together will leave you feeling open, alive and rejuvenated! Come share a part of your summer with John and the gorgeous Big Island.

About the Facilitator(s)

John Salisbury
John Salisbury was raised learning about yoga at home. His true interest came about the age of 22, where he was taught the Astanga Vinyasa Yoga system by his step-father, Dave Oliver. Having an athletic background as a wrestler and weight lifter, John knows it takes discipline and determination to realize one’s Self and potential. Having traveled to India to study Astanga yoga, John has a refreshing outlook between old-world tradition and new-world inspiration. His classes focus on deepening the student’s connection internally, while staying grounded to true outward experience. His understanding of yoga and the Sanskrit language are an amazing example of the great knowledge he has at such a young age. Some of John’s teachers include Tim Miller, Dave Oliver, Dharma Mittra, Lino Miele, and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. John also has a B.A. in Theatre from ASU.
