Singing with Courage

"I'm discovering that lots of people were told not to sing as children - can you imagine?! I'm sure many of them heard far more than "Don't Sing"; they heard "Don't Speak. Don't really be." Singing is a very scary experience for many of us - it's so fraught with opportunities to make a fool of oneself. For those of us who were encouraged to sing as children, singing has always been magical haven, and yet a bit of a mystery. How is it really that we are make these sounds?! I love teaching in a group setting because we join in creating a safe space, and in experiencing each other's risk-takings, discoveries and breakthroughs. We witness little miracles. The Workshops frequently turn out to be about much more than mere singing!"
- Jon Arterton
Jon Arterton's workshop "Singing with Courage!" benefits experienced singers and novices alike. Learning to sing freely with strength, ease and confidence is the goal.
The participants are gently guided to finding their individual voices through group singing, improvisation and vocal exercises. It's not about reading music - it's about making sound and finding the voice, in a safe and fun environment. Shower-singers and Closet-singers are welcome!
There will be two singing session a day, usually in the mornings and evenings. There will be time in the afternoons to explore this most magical part of the world, or to rest and relax around Kalani.
One evening will be devoted to a life-changing lava trek, when participants will journey by jeep across stretches of moon-like rock out to where red-hot lava rushes into the sea to form new land.
