Daniel Albers, LMT has practiced massage on the Big Island of Hawaii since 1993. He currently serves on the massage staff at Kalani Oceanside Retreat and maintains a private practice in Hilo, HI. His practice focuses on Lomilomi, deep tissue, structural release and aromatherapy. He has been conducting Lomilomi massage workshops for the past 14 years at schools and retreat centers on the Big Island and in California, Washington State and Canada. His teaching style strives to incorporate a balance of humor and intensity. The classes are fast-paced and geared toward intermediate to advanced level students/therapists. She has explored many modalities including shiatsu, Body Harmony, Rebalancing, Swedish Massage, Hypnotherapy, Process Oriented Psychology, Rebirthing, Body-Mind centering, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Therapuetic touch, Polarity, Reiki, Yoga, Holy Present Dance, and a wide array of spiritual teachings.

She has been on the staff of healers at Kalani for 7 years and licensed in Hawaii for 8 years. She is constantly incorporating new information into her work.

Massage Fundamentals

Amy DoffThis introductory massage course provides students with the fundamental skills and confidence required to perform a full-body relaxation massage using Swedish massage techniques. Students learn the purposes, effects, and contraindications of massage, as well as the history and current state of the massage profession. Practical knowledge of good hygiene, proper draping, and the use of bolsters is taught.

Amy Doff has enjoyed teaching Human Anatomy, Physiology & Kinesiology to beginning massage students and allied health students, in numerous settings, for over 6 years. She hopes to influence her students to appreciate and take care of their bodies and their physical, social, political and energetic environments. Amy has been practicing medical massage/soft-tissue rehabilitation for the past 13 years and enjoys providing treatment work.

Amy is passionate about participating in our food system (from ground to grind and root to crown) and utilizing the opportunities we have as Massage Therapists to share self- awareness and health education with our clients. She promotes Wellness in Action (meeting our daily needs in ways that also nourish our physical, mental, spiritual and environmental health).

Amy has training in Massage Therapy (LMT, Hawaiian Islands School of Body Therapies, 2001), Anthropology (BA) & Occupational Safety & Health (Minor, UH Hilo, 2006) and a Master’s in Public Health, focusing on Health Policy and Management (UH Manoa, 2010). She currently serves on the Hawai‘i County Subarea Health Planning Council and collaborates with the Matungu Community Development Charity, a sister Community Based Organization, in rural western Kenya, to plan public health and community empowerment programs.

This course fulfills the State of Hawaii requirements for a general overview course in human anatomy. All body systems are covered, with special attention to those most relevant to massage therapy.

Dr. Mark Olson

Dr. Mark Olson has taught anatomy and kinesiology at Kalani numerous times. He is the former director of the Massage Therapy Program at Pioneer Pacific College in Oregon, and a former faculty member at the Traditional Chinese Medicine College of Hawai`i (TCMCH) and the Big Island Academy of Massage.

Dr. Olson is a licensed massage therapist in Hawaii and a certified Watsu practitioner. He has an M.A. in Education and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, specializing in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuropsychology and Neuroanatomy, which he has taught at TCMCH and for graduate and medical students at the University of Illinois.

Dr. Olson's neuroscientific perspective on massage and the human being is both unique and accessible. In this class, all major systems of the body are covered, with emphasis on those most relevant to massage therapists as well as the actions of all of the muscles. The information is presented using multiple techniques (lecture, powerpoint, handouts, drawing, movement, etc) that appeal to all learning styles.

Priya Yoga Summer Camp

Michelle Andrie

is the owner and creator of Priya Yoga. She brings 22 years of yoga experience including years of study in the Iyengar method and 5 years of study in the Scaravelli Method to form a new experience of yoga.

Michelle has been teaching for 14 years. She developed and runs the Priya Yoga Teacher Training program, teaches Priya Yoga classes, and uses her unique sense of the energy body to teach one on one Priya Yoga private sessions.

Michelle has completed her second book titled Freeing The Body: 8 Yoga Practices To Release Held Trauma. She recently shot Priya Partner Yoga DVD.
