Daniel Albers, LMT has practiced massage on the Big Island of Hawaii since 1993. He currently serves on the massage staff at Kalani Oceanside Retreat and maintains a private practice in Hilo, HI. His practice focuses on Lomilomi, deep tissue, structural release and aromatherapy. He has been conducting Lomilomi massage workshops for the past 11 years at schools and retreat centers on the Big Island and in California, Washington State and Canada. His teaching style strives to incorporate a balance of humor and intensity. The classes are fast-paced and geared toward intermediate to advanced level students/therapists. She has been on the staff of healers at Kalani for 8 years and licensed in Hawaii for 9 years. She is constantly incorporating new information into her work.

David Sanders

David is licensed in the state of Hawaii and has been practicing his art at Kalani Honua for the last 8 years. He studied Lomi Lomi under Hawaiian Kapuna Sylvester Kepilino, Lomi masters Daniel Albers, and Nancy Kahalewai at the Big Island Academy of Massage. He also apprenticed with Billy Weaver (U.S. Olympic Massage Team) at Ki Mana Academy of Massage in Hilo. Other studies include Swedish massage at Big Island Academy, Thai massage basics at ITM in Chaing Mai, Thailand, and most recently Kerala Ayurvedic massage techniques in Goa, India and Reiki level one training in Hawaii. David also practices with home-based clients in Kehena Beach, Waikiki and Los Angeles.

This 50 hour course fulfills the State of Hawaii requirements for a general overview course in human anatomy. All body systems are covered, with special attention to those most relevant to massage therapy.

Dr. Mark Olson

Dr. Mark Olson has taught anatomy and kinesiology at Kalani numerous times. He is the former director of the Massage Therapy Program at Pioneer Pacific College in Oregon, and a former faculty member at the Traditional Chinese Medicine College of Hawai`i (TCMCH) and the Big Island Academy of Massage.

Dr. Olson is a licensed massage therapist in Hawaii and a certified Watsu practitioner. He has an M.A. in Education and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, specializing in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuropsychology and Neuroanatomy, which he has taught at TCMCH and for graduate and medical students at the University of Illinois.

Dr. Olson's neuroscientific perspective on massage and the human being is both unique and accessible. In this class, all major systems of the body are covered, with emphasis on those most relevant to massage therapists as well as the actions of all of the muscles. The information is presented using multiple techniques (lecture, powerpoint, handouts, drawing, movement, etc) that appeal to all learning styles.
