Shakti Sunfire is a vibrant and passionate teacher of hoop dance and yoga. Now a resident of San Francisco, she draws on her own experiences and her heavy participation in the community to encourage unfettered self-expression centered in the heart. Marni Sclaroff is an artist, bellydancer, and yogini. She teaches Anusara Inspired yoga as an act of service to the creative and ecstatic unfolding of the Universe. She holds a Masters Degree in Art Education which informs her yoga practice and teaching on many levels. She has appeared on the cover of Yoga Journal magazine, and her poetry is being published in the new book, "The Poetry of Yoga". She lives and teaches in San Francisco. www.yogaanahata.com

Marla Leigh Goldstein is one of the few leading female specialists in the ancient Middle Eastern frame drum. She carries the gift of being an inspiring, energetic and patient teacher who offers drumming workshops and retreats worldwide. She also accompanies many artists in the West Coast Kirtan and World Music scene, leads her own ensemble, ³RHYTHMJUJU², and performs a unique solo show. Her music has been featured on the movies "Bold Native" and "The Cellist", as well as on Hala Khouri's "Yoga for Stress Relief" DVD. Dennis agrees with Pattabhi Jois' statement in the movie Enlighten Up that the main goal of yoga is to discipline the mind. Dennis feels that Kundalini Yoga is one of the most effective, fun and quickest methods to practice the art of disciplining the mind. His approach is gentle and focuses on opening up the energy centers in the body with Kundalini Yoga exercises. He has studied with Kundalini master Gurmukh and completed Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Teacher Training. Jared Sam jaRed has been learning, deepening and sharing his yoga flow practice at Kalani for the past twelve years.  He first discovered his resonance with yoga through the ashtanga primary series with Pamela Richardson in the summer of '97.  He graduated from Kathy Elder's original yoga teacher training in 2001, and has since deepened his understanding of teaching vinyasa flow yoga through intensives with Shiva Rea.

Lino Laure has been practicing meditation for over 25 years. A year after learning meditation, he had a spontaneous spiritual awakening, as the surge of kundalini energy awakened within him prompting a whole new level of life, self awareness and direction. For over 16 years he received guidance from his teacher, a Dhanur Vedic master healer from Kerala, India, learning aspects of yoga, meditation and healing arts. Blissful Yoga Retreat with Nikki Weaver

Need a break from your routine? Looking to strengthen and rejuvenate your practice? Then this retreat is for you, open to all levels. Each morning will begin with a 90 min power practice that will challenge and awaken the body. Evening sessions, also 90 minutes, will be focused on pranayama techniques, hatha and yin yoga. Classes are taught with humor, modifications, and will focus around the chakra system. Journals and hand-outs included.

Nikki Weaver finds peace and joy through the beauty, grace and power of coordinating movement and breath through her physical yoga practice. She is a playful and nurturing teacher, bringing her creative energy to her flow.

Nikki discovered yoga and massage while running at a National level for Australia. It was part of her weekly self-care, along with stretching and pilates. After running in the 2000 Sydney Olympic trials she slowly began to expand her knowledge on how the body worked. First, she became a certified trainer which led to more yoga. Soon she was running less and standing on her head more.

In 2005, Nikki completed her 200 hour Kripalu yoga teacher training. She is certified in power, children's, and pre/post natal yoga. She has taught yoga around the globe, including Jamaica, Iceland, and Australia. In 2007, she began her career in massage after her training at The Muscular Therapy Institute in Boston,MA specializing in sports massage. Nikki can be found working at Trainer's Club in Lake, Oswego as a yoga teacher and LMT. On stage, you might find her at Portland Playhouse, a company started by her husband and brother in-law. Michael Ceraso began his journey as a bodyworker through receiving a wide range of excellent bodywork.  After receiving reiki attunements and practicing for a year he traveled to Thailand where he studied Reflexology at Wat Po in Bangkok and Traditional Thai Massage at ITM in Chiang Mai.

Upon returning to Hawaii he continued to explore healing work through intensive studies of Cranial-Sacral Therapy and Polarity. These studies laid the foundation upon which he has added Swedish Massage and Barefoot Shiatsu.  In 2006 he spent another two months in Thailand where he studied with 3 different teachers, learning new techniques and deepening his practice. Currently he is completing a Masters program in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

He has been the Wellness Director at Kalani since 2004 and orchestrated the Kalani Bodywork Training Intensive for the last 9 years as well as teaching its Traditional Thai Massage course.

This course fulfills the State of Hawaii requirements for a general overview course in human anatomy, physiology and kinesiology. All body systems are covered, with special attention to those most relevant to massage therapy, the muscular, skeletal and nervous systems.

Amy Doff Amy Doff has enjoyed teaching Human Anatomy, Physiology & Kinesiology to beginning massage students and allied health students, in numerous settings, for over 6 years. She hopes to influence her students to appreciate and take care of their bodies and their physical, social, political and energetic environments. Amy has been practicing medical massage/soft-tissue rehabilitation for the past 13 years and enjoys providing treatment work.

Amy is passionate about participating in our food system (from ground to grind and root to crown) and utilizing the opportunities we have as Massage Therapists to share self- awareness and health education with our clients. She promotes Wellness in Action (meeting our daily needs in ways that also nourish our physical, mental, spiritual and environmental health).

Amy has training in Massage Therapy (LMT, Hawaiian Islands School of Body Therapies, 2001), Anthropology (BA) & Occupational Safety & Health (Minor, UH Hilo, 2006) and a Master’s in Public Health, focusing on Health Policy and Management (UH Manoa, 2010). She currently serves on the Hawai‘i County Subarea Health Planning Council and collaborates with the Matungu Community Development Charity, a sister Community Based Organization, in rural western Kenya, to plan public health and community empowerment programs.

Lynne took her first yoga class while in college, at the YMCA in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Her first instructor and mentor, Trudy Davis, encouraged her to teach when she moved to Alaska in 1977.  She enrolled in the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco’s Teacher Training Program the summer of 1980. Encouraged by Donald Moyer, she attended her first yoga Intensive at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India in 1981. She was certified to teach yoga by BKS Iyengar in 1984. Subsequent trips to Pune followed in 1988 and 1997.

Lynne founded the Inner Dance Yoga Studio in 1982 in Anchorage, Alaska and oversaw  its growth and development into a thriving center with 20 plus instructors for the next 26 years . She  started the Inner Dance Teacher Training program in 1999 which  trained over 100 yoga teachers in the 8 years of her  oversight of the program.   Lynne sold the Inner Dance Yoga Studio in 2008.   She now travels the country and the world teaching yoga wherever she is invited.

Lynne  draws inspiration from yoga on and off the mat,  attending local classes and  sharing practice with others .  She honors her  teachers of  the Iyengar  tradition, Judith Lasater, Donald Moyer,  and  Fr. Joe Pereira .   Self-Realizaion Fellowship, Paramahansa Yogananda's organization, to which she was first exposed in 1978 is another continuing source of upliftment.   

Yogananda says, "The true purpose of life is to realize one's Self as wisdom and bliss".   Patanjali's yoga sutra book II, sutra 41 (Light on Yoga Sutras, BKS Iyengar translation) states, " When the body is cleansed, the mind purified and the senses controlled, joyful awareness needed to realize the inner Self, also comes."  My mission statement is to help myself and others to awaken joyful awareness through the practices of yoga;   asanas that cleanse the body, pranayama that calms the mind, concentration that controls the senses, and meditation for realizing the Inner Self.

Lynne grew up in Wisconsin. Her love of travel and degree in Environmental Geology brought her to play and work in Alaska in 1975.  That year she met future husband, Jim , and together they made Alaska home. They have been married since 1978.  Together they enjoy camping, flying, overseas travel and their wonderful community of family and friends. Lynne also loves to sing, hula, play her ukelele,  garden, bike and hike. She is in the process of relocating to Prescott, Arizona.

Yoga and Rejuvenation for Aquatic Athletes

We will combine studio yoga with yoga in and near the pool, including in our body temperature watsu pool.

Maxwell StarkhouseMaxwell is one of the most best-known yoga instructors at Kalani, and is a massage therapist, poet, musician, artist and world-traveling yogi. Maxwell was first introduced to yoga by his mother when he was a young child and has been interested in alternative medicine and healing arts ever since.

Maxwell brings a beautiful sense of fluidity to his yoga practice which beautifully compliments the needs of aquatic athletes. He has studied with different teachers around the world such as Kathy Elder, Shiva Rea, Lino Miele and Duncan Wong. He is influenced by many different styles of yoga and martial arts such as: hatha yoga, ashtanga yoga, yin yoga, vinyasa yoga, restorative yoga, capoiera, tai chi, and Kuk Sol Korean Buddhist martial arts. He recently spent five months traveling India deepening his practice of yoga.
