jaRed has been learning, deepening and sharing his yoga flow practice at Kalani for the past eleven years. He first discovered his resonance with yoga through the ashtanga primary series with Pamela Richardson in the summer of '97. He graduated from Kathy Elder's original yoga teacher training in 2001, and has since deepened his understanding of teaching vinyasa flow yoga through intensives with Shiva Rea.

David began his personal yoga practice in 1976. He has studied at a variety of locations in Los Angeles, including Billy Porter's Urban Yoga Workout, and Yoga Works, Santa Monica. David has been deepening his practice at Kalani for the last nine years. A Kalani teacher for the past six years, David graduated from Kalani's Yoga Teacher Training in April of 2002. While at Kalani, he has had the opportunity to study with visiting teachers, including Shiva Rea, Lynne Minton, Saul David Raye and Duncan Wong.
Dennis agrees with Pattabhi Jois' statement in the movie Enlighten Up that the main goal of yoga is to discipline the mind. Dennis feels that Kundalini Yoga is one of the most effective, fun and quickest methods to practice the art of disciplining the mind. His approach is gentle and focuses on opening up the energy centers in the body with Kundalini Yoga exercises. He has studied with Kundalini master Gurmukh and completed Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Teacher Training. His classes are invigorating, grounding, intuitive, fun and leave you feeling centered, calm and smiling.
Maxwell is a yoga instructor, massage therapist, dancer, poet, musician and artist. He was first introduced to yoga by his mother when he was a young child and has been interested in alternative medicine and healing arts ever since. He has studied with different teachers around the world such as Kathy Elder, Shiva Rea, Lino Miele and Duncan Wong. He received his yoga teacher training certificate in 2003 at Kalani Honua in Hawaii. He is influenced by many different styles of yoga and martial arts such as Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Yin Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga , Restorative Yoga , Capoiera, Tai Chi, and Kuk Sol Korean Buddhist martial arts. He spent five months traveling in India deepening his practice of yoga. He currently teaches Intuitive Yoga at Kalani.

For the past five years she has been teaching various forms of mind-body exercise, throughout the Boston area and has taught internationally in India. Through the healing synthesis of breath and movement, provided by the flowing practice of Vinyasa, Sarah has developed a study and teaching style of yoga which helps to innervate the spirit and nourish the soul. Her classes are always rooted in mindful alignment, set to the cadence of fluid breath. Sarah encourages her students, new and old, to arrive at their mats with nothing more than a sense of compassion for themselves and an openness to what can be. She believes that a well-balanced body and mind come, not from asperity but, from acceptance and that strength is more oft found in stillness, than in activity. Sarah invites her students to work with intention in order to reestablish the mind-body connection bringing a deeper awareness and a sense of great peace into their daily lives.

I found yoga back in the late nineties when a friend suggested it was a great compliment to my Zen meditation practice & running. I had a question many of us share: can you meditate if you have a hard time sitting still? I have completed two teacher trainings at the 8 Limbs Yoga Centers, three with Shiva Rea & one with Rod Stryker. Among the many others i’ve studied with, SarahJoy Marsh, JJ Gormley, Rodney Yee & Katerina Wen have had the most influence on my teaching. In addition to my yoga practice, I’m deeply inspired by silent time in the jungles of Costa Rica with my Reiki teacher, Mitra Politi & my meditation teacher, Tyohar. My own practice has dropped from the intensity of Baptiste Power Vinyasa into the deep still pool of yin & the lineage of Desikachar, emerging as a strong flowing practice that is attentive to the meditative aspect of the body in motion. I feel the body, especially core awareness & breath, is the gateway to any inner work. At the same time, I feel openness & surrender are more important than effort. In class, I try to share a balance between these elements. My hope is that people can take their experience of the flow of yoga & meditation out into the flow of their daily lives, and that the practice can be a catalyst for awareness & personal growth.
Maia Laverty, RYT - Maia is a wife, mother of two amazing children, a certified Yoga Alliance teacher, and owner of Lotus Yoga. She delights in sharing the practice of yoga with others. Maia’s classes offer slow, flowing movement with a steady focus on healthy physical alignment, strength-building through the attentive holding of poses, and a meditative focus on our experience in our own bodies (rather than trying to fulfill a “perfect” outward appearance in each pose). Generally, classes are centered on a physical or philosophical theme. Themes from traditional yoga teachings will be woven through multiple classes, allowing students to cultivate a deeper understanding of yoga & what it means in our “real” lives. Maia believes that Yoga can be an intriguing and compelling life-long practice: it is a physical practice that strengthens and balances our bodies but it is also a life tool that helps us to live more fully in the present and a mindfulness practice that helps us to connect to our most balanced and true selves. Yoga is the tool that Maia uses to maintain a focus on her commitment to be loving, kind and respectful in her relationships. Nicole is a Seattle-based children’s yoga teacher and pediatric occupational therapist. She has been sharing the gift of yoga with children and their families since 2004. Nicole is certified to teach through Next Generation Yoga and the Radiant Child Yoga Program. She is committed to furthering her knowledge as a teacher and a student through her own yoga and meditation practice and by attending various trainings on yoga, as well as child development.
Nicole chooses fun and educational class themes where yogis are transported back to the time when dinosaurs roamed the earth, whisked away on an African safari, or blasted off into outer space. Yoga philosophy, learning points, active student involvement, and room for self-expression are integrated into every class as well. Traditional yoga poses, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, and meditation activities are paired with singing and dancing, movement exploration, and much laughter for a truly special and unique experience. Nicole views each class as not only a fun and educational opportunity for children and their families, but also for herself as a teacher. Children always have been and will continue to be her greatest teachers. She is inspired by their insightfulness, creativity, and their ability to live in the moment.
