Activities

Kalani offers a variety of daily activities, ranging from meditation and yoga to dance and volleyball. Most activities and classes last one hour to one hour and a half.

Activities are included in Kalani all-inclusive vacations and some workshops. Otherwise, they are $12 for guests visiting Kalani a la carte or attending a workshop that does not include activities. *Hula basics and volleyball are free for everyone.

Hawaiian and World Cultures

Hula Class*

Experience the beauty and power of this uniquely Hawaiian art form that combines storytelling with dance, chant, and music. Everyone from beginners to experienced dancers are invited to come and learn about the hula, from its basic steps to a full hula dance by the end of the session.

World Beat Drumming

Join a guided drum circle, warming up with traditional strokes and patterns then learning one or more rhythms from the African, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian or Middle-Eastern cultures. The rhythms are constructed as layers and everyone gets to a play a part. Whether you are first timer or a seasoned musician seeking to expand your rhythm vocabulary you are warmly invited.

Lauhala Weaving

Learn the traditional Hawaiian art of lauhala (pandanus leaves) weaving using materials harvested from Kalani's own grounds. Beginners start with weaving a bracelet and progress to weaving fans, mats, baskets, and other pieces in subsequent sessions. Also enjoy chanting, talking story, and learning about Hawaiian culture.

Volleyball is an immensely popular sport throughout the Hawaiian Islands, and Kalani is no exception! Whether a first-timer or a seasoned player, anyone looking to have fun and get their blood pumping is welcome to join in.

Ecstatic Dance

Set your mind free, and let your body go in a joyful, open, and loving environment. Ecstatic Dance is a free-form, non-verbal dance drawing numerous participants from the local community and surrounding areas of the island. It is usually held weekly on Sunday mornings, with an evening Ecstatic Dance held once a month.

Tai Chi

This introduction to Tai Chi focuses on the Yang style long form and Push Hands, while striving to bring the mind, body, and breath into coordination and harmony. All are welcome, and the class can be adjusted to different levels of experience.

Kuk Sool Won Martial Arts

Kuk Sool is a comprehensive martial arts system from Korea combining kicking, punching, throwing, falling, grappling, choking, joint-locking, pressure point attacking, moving meditations, and much more into a beautiful hard-soft style emphasizing internal power, fluidity, balance, and speed. Beginners and experienced martial artists are welcome.

Osho Nataraj Meditation

Cast aside your ego and become the dance in this joyful, moving meditation combining a total immersion in dance with stages of stillness and celebration.

Aromatherapy

Discover the relaxing and healing properties of essential oils, and enjoy hot lavender compresses and meditative music during an aromatherapy session. Each week, a different essential oil is profiled and discussed, with a sample for participants to take home and share.

Pilates

Increase flexibility and develop core body strength in this Pilates matwork class. Everyone is welcome, from beginners to experienced practitioners. Be prepared for a challenging and fun experience!

Aquatic Dance and Bodywork

Dolphin Dance

Dive into the magic and healing powers of Dolphin Dance, an eclectic aquatic and sub-aquatic bodywork exploration. This group session takes place in Kalani's warm pool and guides participants into a non-verbal space filled with music where they can express themselves and move from their emotions in free-form dances improvised by oneself, in pairs, or group.
